"group of around a dozen roe deer hinds in the open on the Ridgeway first thing this morning - didn't spot them initially as they were hunkered down and gave me the fright of my life when one jumped up no more than 30 feet away"
Montgomeryshire has a fantastic range of mammals, from the tiny Pygmy Shrew to the great Red Deer, from aerial masters such as pipistrelle bats to expert swimmers like otters. With approximately 40 species of mammals in Montgomeryshire, there is plenty to see, without being overwhelming. I hope this blog inspires you to not only keep your eyes open for our wonderful mammals, but report your sightings too!
