Deer rut

We are now well into deer rutting season, so now is the perfect time to keep your ears open for the territorial call of the stags. Both Red Deer and Fallow Deer stags vocalise, but they sound different, so get your ear in and you can identify them from call alone.  

Deer parks, like the one at Powis Castle, are worth a visit before you head out into the wider countryside. You can often get quite close to the deer and therefore easily see which species is making the noise!
